The ERC is a stimulus program created under the CARES Act and designed to help those
businesses and other entities who were able to retain their F/T employees during a
certain period of the Covid-19 pandemic. Established by the CARES Act, it is a payroll
tax refund grant, not a loan, that you can claim for your organization. The ERC is
available to non-profits like yours. It is based on the qualified wages and healthcare
paid to employees and is not based on whether or not a PPP loan was granted.

To qualify, you would need to have had a minimum of five (5) full time (30 hrs./wk.)
employees (non-owner or family) for the period from Feb 2020 through September
2021.
If a government authority required partial or full shutdown of your organization during
2020 or 2021, or your operations were limited by restricted commerce, (decreased
fund-raising, etc.,) the inability to meet donors and clients, or travel issues including
restrictions against group meetings, are just some of the impacts covered by the ERC.
Initially, under the CARES Act of 2020, businesses and other entities were not able to
qualify for the ERC if they had already received a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)
loan. Due to the new legislation in 2021, employers are now eligible for both programs.
- There is no limit on the total amount of the credit you can receive.
- Minimum of 5 F/T (30/hr./week) W-2 employees whether or not still employed.
- Your refund could be *up to* as much as $26,000/eligible employee.
